Let's build the foundations for Australia's future

The Lab is a 12-month collaborative design process to develop a uniquely Australian model for a National Conversation, grounded in the realities of everyday Australians. More than 150 organisations and experts have already signed up to bring this ambitious vision to life. It's underway now, and being built in the open.

Building Momentum: Expanding Collaboration for a National Conversation

Following the launch of the National Conversation Discussion Paper, this Parliamentary meeting built on the momentum from November's meeting, moving into deeper collaborative and consultative engagements with the community through a facilitated discussion alongside members of the Intergenerational Fairness Coalition. The meeting reviewed efforts since November, examined ways to engage a wider range of stakeholders across governments, civil society and the community to inform next steps for the National Conversation Development Lab, and identified priority actions for the next phase, including pathways for localised engagement and coordinated leadership.

The inaugural meeting of the re-established Parliamentary Group for Future Generations in the 48th Parliament, marking a pivotal opportunity to reset the national conversation on intergenerational fairness and embed long-term thinking at the heart of Australian governance. Keynote speaker Danielle Wood, Chair of the Productivity Commission, explored opportunities to advance Future Generations Policy in Australia. The meeting reaffirmed multi-partisan support for future generations policy, strengthened collaboration between parliamentary champions and civil society leaders, platformed state-level initiatives shaping long-term thinking, and explored the case for a National Conversation on Australia's future.
